Have you stopped playing tennis or golf because of knee pain? Or you still play, but you’re always hurting after?
Maybe you think this is just what getting old feels like. Or maybe you’re wondering if there’s a better way.
I’ve had the same problem since 18. Physical therapy, peptides, none of it got me back to sprinting, jumping, or training hard.
For 27 years, I’ve been obsessed with how to actually fix pain, not just manage it. I built a method. Tested it on myself, then my clients. Now I’m sharing it with you.
This is how you get back to training hard, golf, and tennis, without the ache, with better recovery, and a body that feels younger again.
You’ll learn:
- Why getting out of knee pain is not the same as returning to an active life
- Why generic physical therapy and random knee exercises often fall short
- How knee pain can involve the hips, ankles, mobility, recovery, body fat, and inflammation
- Why Ted believes jumping and return-to-sport progressions are key for rebuilding knee capacity after 40

Podcast Transcription: The Knee Pain Mistake That Keeps Men Over 40 Stuck (And How to Get Back to Running, Jumping, and Training Hard)
Ted Ryce: Do your knees hurt? And are you over 40? Then you're gonna wanna listen to this episode because I've got something to share with you. And listen, I know how knee pain is. I'm 49. I started having knee problems when I was 18 because I used to do skateboarding and all this crazy stuff, so I've been struggling with knee issues since I was 18.
And then when I started doing jujitsu in my late 20s, I had a few injuries that really messed me up. I tore my meniscus in my left knee, went to an orthopedic surgeon, and he was like, "Well, you know..." I, I really wanted him to say like, "Hey, let's do an operation. It's gonna get better." But what he told me, and thankfully he didn't push surgery, he's like, "Look, you know, I don't know what to tell you here.
You've got some arthritis, you got a tear, but I don't think surgery is the right thing." And I left wondering like, man, I was really hoping he would just say I, I would do a little operation and I'd be fine. And he also didn't say, "You need expert-level physical therapy." And so I just went on from that, and I just did my best, and I was able to get pain-free.
I ended up working with physical therapists. I went and worked with some top physical therapists, people who work with professional athletes and Cirque du Soleil performers, and they really didn't get me to where I wanted to go because my goal wasn't just being pain-free. And by the way, pain-free, that's an easy target.
You just have to do some physical therapy exercises and avoid really stressful things like doing jujitsu, playing tennis, running, sprinting. But I got to the point, I was like, there's gotta be a better way, right? How do professional athletes- have major injuries and get back to playing the sport? Like, what are the best of the best doing?
And that's what I got into. And before you ask, 'cause I was talking to a client yesterday about this, my client was like, "Oh, it's peptides, right? You're gonna heal my knee with peptides." No, it's not freaking peptides or stem cells. Look, I got shot up with stem cells. I've talked about it a lot. It helped, but it didn't get me the results that I was really looking for, and the results that I was looking for was getting back to the things I wanted to sprint again, and now I'm sprinting again.
I wanted to jump again, and now I'm jumping again. I'm doing jujitsu without feeling like I can't walk the next day because my knees are swollen or in pain. So this is not that, and this is not knees over toes, 'cause my client was also like, "Oh, was that... You're gonna have me walk backwards on a treadmill, right?"
I was like, "No, man." There's nothing wrong with it. I tried the knee over toes program. It didn't work for me. And what I came across, thinking about it by the way, in case you're interested, I was like, this is, this is a not a bad program, but it's really for people who are experiencing knee pain because they don't know how to train.
In other words, if you're a person and all you know how to do is go into the gym and load up the squat and the leg press and the leg extension with heavy weights and push yourself too hard, and then you have knee pain, it can... The, the knees over toes progression, it can be a good way for those type of people, but I have real issues.
I had real issues, right? Like, I was already doing a lot of that stuff, and I tried the knees over toes. I'm like, "Man, this is dumb. This is not really that high level." The dorsiflexions for your tibialis anterior or walking backwards on, uh, it's like, that was not the answer. But I figured something out. I learned from the best of the best and created what I'm calling my R3 Knee Method.
It- the R3 stands for three different words, right? It's restore, rebuild, and return, and that last part is key, 'cause what I learned was- People and physical therapists, and we'll talk about that right now, like why does most knee rehab fail? It's because it's too generic or incomplete. Physical therapists might give you a few exercises, send you home, and yeah, you get out of pain, but you don't get back to the sports that you wanna do, or running, or sprinting, or jumping.
And if you're like me, you're like, man, you watch people do things athletic and you're like, "I would love to do that again, but I ain't, I ain't jumping because, uh, jumping hurts my knees. I can do it, I'll just be in pain the next day." Right? And look, ChatGPT can give you a list of exercises, but it can't coach your body in real time.
And those $97 products, I bought a few knee rehab programs, and I was just like, "Oh, man, I already was doing half the exercises already." And I could tell right away that it, it wasn't gonna... It wasn't an improvement. This guy was just trying to make some money. You don't need random knee exercises. What you need is what I'm calling the return to sport progression, okay?
Because knee pain is not just a knee problem. It can be if you've got too much fat, it can be the fact that insulin resistance is driving inflammation. It can be an ankle issue, it can be a hip issue, it can be a mobility issue, right? Your training history matters, old injuries matter, how well you recover matters.
And that's why I've taken everything, and this is the big direction I'm going in right now because I'm getting results. I'm getting clients getting back to running, jumping, and playing sports without being in pain the next day. I got a client right now that will tell you he hurt his knee Running last year, and now he's back to doing jumping.
We don't have him quite back to running to the level he was yet, but he's jumping again. He's like, "My knees have not felt this good in I can't remember how long." Right? And he plays golf, he, and he does other things. He also flies planes. He is a guy, he's on his path back to running, back to jumping, already doing jumping, and get this, the jumping that we're doing, it's making his knees feel better.
And that's what I want to tell you. Strength training is not enough. Just going in and doing some leg extensions, it's not enough. Yeah, it can get you out of pain and build some strength and capacity back, but you need the right progression to get you back. If you are over 40, in your 40s, 50s, and 60s, and you're not jumping right now, that is what you need to be doing to get your knees better.
I know that sounds crazy, but I'm telling you it's true. And look, if you've been listening to my podcast for a while, and I have your trust already, I want to tell you, I am opening five spots up for men over 40 who are dealing with knee pain and want to get back to training hard, playing golf, tennis, skiing, hiking, or if you're like me, Brazilian jujitsu, whatever active life that you've been missing out on, that is what my 3R method is for.
And because I need some testimonials and this is the first group, I'm offering 40% off the normal price But in exchange, I want two things. First, you need to be willing to do the work. If you're still trying to figure out, is it the chondroitin, uh, the glucosamine in- in the chondroitin, uh, or in the MSM, or maybe I'll do the TB, uh, 5000 and BPC 157, or maybe I'll get a cortisone injection.
If you're still chasing symptoms and not realizing this is an exercise training problem, building up capacity in your joints the right way, if you're not willing to do the work and you're still messing around with that stuff, this isn't for you. This is for people who are ready to do the work, who've maybe even tried the cortisone injections, the P- the PRP, the stem cells.
I had a lot of-- I had $50,000 worth of stem cell injections. It was good, but it wasn't the thing that made the difference. And second, if I get you the result that I'm telling you I can get, I want your honest testimonial. And so that's it. Five people, if you're serious about it like I'm serious, go to legendarylifepodcast.com/knee.
That's legendarylifepodcast.com/knee, K-N-E-E. Hopefully, hopefully, I didn't need to spell that for you. What you're gonna do is you're gonna book a strategy call with me. We're gonna hop on the call. I'm gonna ask you some questions to figure out the extent of what's going on with your knee and tell you whether I think it's a fit or not.
I'm only doing this for five people. So again, go to legendarylifepodcast.com/knee. Book your call and think about this. Imagine if you can get back to training hard again, like I'm training hard again. I never thought I'd be pushing my legs like this, pushing my knees like this. Jumping again. I'm doing jumping, and the jumping is making my knees feel better, not worse.
Imagine if that could be you. Imagine if you could get back to playing golf, playing tennis, hiking, skiing, and your knees feel good the next day, like you can go and do it. You don't feel like, "Oh man, I'm gonna have to see my ortho and get another cortisone injection." Imagine if we could get you out of that cycle.
If that sounds like something you want... Look, I know with the type of claim I'm making, right? I know we're living in a world where, is this even AI? Is this really Ted? I don't know. Who knows? Is this gonna be some kind of hack gimmick? No, I'm talking about something you haven't done before, you haven't tried before.
Because your knees w- you wouldn't be listening to this if you had, and we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. So again, if that's you, legendarylifepodcast.com/knee. Book your call. Looking forward to talking with you.
