Listener’s Question:

My ultimate goal that I’ve had since I was 14 (in 1991) or even younger is to put together the worlds best civilian self-defense martial art curriculum of: principles, techniques, tactics and strategies! By best I mean; effective, viable, reasonable, ethical, scalable, non-mystical, non-pseudo-science, non-traditional. In accordance with local laws.

I started formally training in martial arts in 1991 and have since graded in 6 different martial arts along with exhaustive researching and studying of many martial arts and self-defence/self-protection (including TFT) techniques, tactics, strategies, principles, philosophies, culture, geography.

I’ve been working at a long-term care facility for 4 years and I have encountered many agitated and aggressive residents with dementia. I have witnessed staff reacting inappropriately and/or ineffectively to such incidents, therefore I decided to write two books titled “Self-defence for caregivers: Level one” and “Self-defence for caregivers: Level two” published in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

However I have not reached black belt in any martial art therefore I do not have the qualifications that the majority of the public looks for to teach martial arts/self-defence.

I also am broke and in debt and my income is below average.

Thank you for considering this message!

Answer:

Step 1:

First of all, CONGRATS on knowing your mission and putting out not one but TWO books! That’s awesome!

It’s a great idea to put together the best civilian martial art. And teaching self-defense to caregivers is a great niche!

So you have a mission. You have a message. You have books.

So why aren’t you CRUSHING IT?

Know your “Why”

Step 2:

Choose a niche/perfect your pitch

Step 3:
