334: How Plant Medicine Can Change Your Life with Gerry Powell

After the multiple family tragedies that I endured in my life, I’ve been on a quest to to find meaning and to heal the wounds that each trauma left. My mother died when I was 14, my 9-year-old brother was murdered when I was 19, and my sister committed suicide when I was 36.

Getting back my physical health through nutrition and exercise after my brother was murdered was my first healing experience. My mood, energy, and strength returned as I focused on moving my muscles and nourishing my body with healthy foods. I also found that I had a gift in helping others gain back their health and youthfulness.

Then I found my self-confidence and power in martial arts and public speaking. Without Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I would’ve never had the courage to take the action necessary to continue to grow and to share my story. Public speaking provided a cathartic release of painful emotions while allowing me to positively impact thousands of others.

But the most powerful experience that changed my life was an ayahuasca retreat I did in Costa Rica at a place called Rythmia.

I’ll be honest, when this opportunity came up to attend a plant-medicine ceremony I didn’t want to do it. I know from my past experiences with psychedelics that it would bring up painful memories from my past. After 9 months in Asia, I had gone through a complete transformation physically and mentally. I wasn’t convinced that a trip to the jungle was what I needed next to reach a higher level.

After much deliberation, I decided to go. And what happened next changed my life.

Listen to this episode with CEO and founder of Rythmia, Gerry Powell, as I discuss my experience with him to make sense of of what happened.

Want help becoming the healthiest, fittest, strongest version of you?

Most people over 40 know that exercise, eating healthy, manage stress, and quality sleep are important elements for feeling better and achieving more in life.

Yet they need help applying that knowledge in the context of their busy, sometimes stressful lives.

The good news is it doesn’t have to be this hard.

Check out this masterclass I put together where I’ll share the exact strategies busy people like you are using to build a younger, leaner, and sexier body in their forties, fifties, and even sixties without joining exhausting Bootcamps or P90x, going on a detox cleanse, doing intermittent fasting, or any of those “quick fixes” that don’t work for the long-term success.

I’ll pull back the curtain and reveal exactly how our clients are creating the body and life they’ve always wanted by ignoring all the conventional wisdom. This is a limited-time masterclass. Click on the link below to sign up for this training now.

omg this is the best episode that I’ve heard so far. I was at the begging like yeah what this Ted is taking about being on high again. Soon I realize how powerful it is and hearing real tears and emotions from a men is so sexy because you are so much in a stereotype of not crying and not showing emotions. I never experience any serious trauma, abuse etc I’m so lucky in life and hearing this kind of stories make me feel so grateful for the life I have. The only bad thing that happen to me was so poor business decisions and losing some stupid money, but that’s nothing compering to real traumas.
Yet I’m still on the journey to my truth. I hope I will have opportunity to experience this kind of retreat.
Ted thank you for being you 🙂

Thanks for your comment and kind words, Karina. I didn’t know what to expect when I first arrived to Rythmia. I was hopeful but very skeptical–especially with the type of language they use in their marketing. It was a hard experience to go through. But it was worth it. Nearly a month later and I’m still glowing from the experience. I would check out “transformational breathwork” or “holotropic breathwork” before you go to Rythmi or another place like it. And keep doing the work your doing. Ayahuasca and Rythmia aren’t a magic bullet. They’re a HUGE upgrade but they won’t heal you without doing the work on your own.

Lastly, don’t compare our experiences too much. I’m glad hearing my story helped you. But don’t minimize your story or your loss. It’s just as important as mine! That’s what I learned from my 3rd night 🙂
